#StillMe: A Social Movement

The Impact of Stigma
In 2023, Alzheimer Calgary completed in-depth research that found that people in our communities often:
- Do not understand dementia well (lack of ‘dementia literacy’)
- Are fearful of dementia
- Have a grim mental picture of what dementia looks like, and
- Assume an almost immediate loss of awareness and function in the person.
Over half of Calgarians agree that this is the health condition they fear most (57%). Janet Brown Opinion Research, 2023.
Opening Hearts and Minds
As a partner in the Dementia Network community, Alzheimer Calgary has created #StillMe, a powerful social movement to shape meaningful change and unite communities around a cause.
#StillMe aims to open hearts and minds in our community to break down stigma and shape new perceptions. It takes a lighthearted and joyful approach to help community members start conversations about dementia with each other, and show the many ways in which people can continue to live well after a diagnosis.
“People can live quite successfully for years. Many people are surprised that you can go out, be social, go to restaurants, be active, and have fun.” John McCaffery
#StillMe relies on the passion and desire for change of Calgarians to create a more open and inclusive community. You can take action and become part of the #StillMe movement.
